Riga has found a way to mix its Gothic history with the modern world to create a city buzzing with activity and culture unlike any other. Gothic spires rise well above the city skylines, while on the floor, visitors walk along the cobbled streets to find elegant Art Nouveau buildings, most obviously encountered on Alberta Iela, which is often a hive of excitement as those ambling through admire the intricate facades, pop into the many shops, or relax and watch the world pass by in one of the countless experimental restaurants. What's more, you can also visit one of the most renowned landmarks in the nation, Riga Cathedral, widely recognised as the largest medieval church in the Baltic states, Riga's central market, or the Art Museum Riga Bourse, which houses art collected from across the world, including Ancient Egypt.
