Canals, cobbled streets and churches are just a drop in the ocean within the whimsical city of Bruges. While in the city, we recommend heading to the historical Markt, with its medieval buildings, large square and abundance of horse-drawn carriages all giving the area a magical fairytale feeling. Make sure to drop by the Belfry of Bruges, which towers above the market square at 83m in height. Visitors can simply admire the tower from outside, or, for the brave, take on the challenge of climbing the 366 steps to the top! All that effort will certainly be rewarded though, with awe-inspiring panoramas of the city on offer. Some of the hotspots include the Basilica of the Holy Blood – home to the legendary blood of Jesus Christ, and Michelangelo’s only sculpture known as Madonna with Child.
